The organizer completes Stripe onboarding for the payout account, sets event or household fees, and sees payment status in the GatherKin workspace. Families use Stripe-hosted checkout rather than sending card information to the organizer.
How the payment flow works
- The reunion organizer connects an eligible Stripe payout account.
- The organizer sets adult, child, household, or custom registration fees.
- A registered household reviews its balance and opens Stripe checkout.
- Stripe processes the payment and reports the completed status to GatherKin.
- The organizer sees the registration and payment state together.
Payouts are not escrow
GatherKin and Stripe Connect do not create a legal escrow account for the reunion committee. Payout timing, reserves, disputes, refunds, account verification, and availability are controlled by Stripe and the connected account arrangement. Organizers should maintain clear event and refund policies and keep sufficient funds available for obligations.
Refunds and cancellations
A paid household can request cancellation through its family profile. The organizer reviews the request and can initiate an eligible refund from the workspace. The household record should retain the resulting status for accurate reporting rather than simply disappearing.
Payment safety basics
Organizers should enable strong authentication on their GatherKin, email, and Stripe accounts; never request card numbers by email; review payout details before opening registration; and reconcile registration totals against Stripe activity. GatherKin does not store raw card numbers.
