Family reunion fried chicken calculator.

Quick answer: Count adults and children separately, reduce the chicken allowance when another main protein is served, and add only a controlled reserve.

Recommended order
Vendor packs
Breast pieces, about 25%
Thigh pieces, about 25%
Leg pieces, about 25%
Wing pieces, about 25%

This is a planning estimate, not a food-safety or vendor guarantee. Confirm piece mix, pack size, appetite, menu, and final attendance with your caterer or restaurant.

How the estimate works

When fried chicken is the main protein, the calculator begins with two pieces per adult and 1.25 pieces per child. It uses fewer pieces when another substantial protein or several mains share the buffet, then applies your reserve and rounds up to a complete vendor pack.

Before placing the order

  • Use confirmed registrations rather than the invitation list.
  • Ask whether the vendor guarantees a mixed-piece ratio.
  • Confirm whether trays and packs are described by pieces, weight, or servings.
  • Keep hot food at a safe temperature and follow local food-safety guidance.
  • Record the actual attendance and leftovers for the next reunion committee.

Frequently asked questions

How many pieces should I order for 100 people?

For 70 adults and 30 children with chicken as the main protein, the baseline is about 178 pieces before a reserve. An 8% reserve and 16-piece packs produces a practical order of 12 packs, or 192 pieces.

Should children count as a full adult serving?

Usually not for children under 12. Teenagers should generally be counted as adults.

What if barbecue or fish is also served?

Select the shared-protein setting and confirm the expected popularity of each main before ordering.
